To celebrate Rocket during the final Rocket Classic at Detroit Golf Club, we worked with agency friends Supper to design, build and activate "The Dream Nine." A nine-hole mini golf course, and the first of its kind at a PGA Tour event.
Three fan zones across the grounds, three holes each, one Detroit theme per zone. Holes 1 through 3 honored the city's rich history of architecture and design: the Belle Isle Conservatory dome, a cable-stayed bridge, a downtown skyline and an arched Belle Isle bridge ramp.
Holes 4 through 6 covered Motown and the city's music history, built around "Rocket Records," a full-scale storefront with a neon sign, red canopies, oversized album sleeves, turntables and speaker stacks.
Holes 7 through 9 covered the Detroit food scene classics: larger than life coney dogs as obstacles. A Rocket Coney Island stand. Giant Detroit-style pizza boxes made up part of the course design. A Boston Cooler cart pouring floats made with Vernor's Ginger Ale, the oldest continually manufactured soda in the country. Red turf, red and white everything, major visibility, Rocket themed everything. Guests left with scorecards, pencils, Rocket golf balls, sticker sheets and totes.
The lines stayed long all week. Families played our course. Golf fans played our course. Even Rickie Fowler played our course.
